The Team

Meet the team

Luke Savage - Osteopath

In January 2006 I was given the opportunity to take over the osteopathic clinic at Worthing Leisure Centre. The clinic had needed to expand for some time and we were looking for the ideal premises. In Feb 2015 we moved to our new premises, which will has 7 treatments rooms and a studio. This has allowed us to provide bigger and better service. The building is called Worthing Osteopathic & Wellbeing Clinic.

I used to work in another osteopathic clinic in Seaford. This is where I first started work when I qualified as an osteopath in 2003. I was asked to work at Seaford Osteopathic Clinic by Mr J Vara who was one of my tutors when I was an undergraduate.

For the first 6 years after qualifying I also worked as an assistant teacher at the European School of Osteopathy to help teach the undergraduate osteopaths. But lately I have wanted to spend more time treating patients and focusing on building the clinic. Out of work I enjoy playing golf, squash, badminton and spending time with my wife and our children.

Jo Oliphanthope - Homeopath

I first trained as a nurse when I left school, and qualified as a RGN in 1985. I then went on to specialise in ITU (intensive care) and from there worked on the Day Ward, which at that time, was one of the first areas to really extend the role of the nurse.

After I had my third child, although I was breast feeding, he developed the start of asthma. I did not want to go down the steroid route, so took him to a homeopath. Thereby started a huge journey into the complementary health sphere. The homeopathy cured his asthma and the start of eczema. I have never looked back and when he started school I went back to college for four years to study homeopathy. I studied at the Southdowns School of Homeopathy and qualified in 2003.

What is so wonderful about this system of medicine is that it treats the whole person and can only get the body to actually heal itself, without the unwanted side effects so often experienced with drugs. It is effective for both acute and chronic illnesses.

Fees: Initial consultation is £65. Follow up consultations are £45

Emma Walder

Emma Walder - Nutritional Therapist

Emma has studied nutritional medicine and naturopathic nutrition over the last decade, with a break in between to run a food business so she has a good understanding of the key elements required to tailor plans to suit individual requirements, and eclectic tastes! She has recently focused on nutrition to optimise brain health, overcome fatigue, improve digestive health and boost the immune system. She is currently undertaking further training to support specific illnesses and has a developing interest in nutrition tailored to genetic variations. There are endless benefits to making dietary adaptations but simply improving mood and vitality can make a big difference.

Ultimately, she believes the most interesting thing about nutrition is enjoying the food that makes you feel your best, so she is always researching new foods and ingredients to use in simple but nutritious recipes. With increasing demands on our time and attention it’s easy to overlook the healthiest foods and become reliant on convenient alternatives. Conflicting media reports about what is and is not healthy can make it difficult to select the best foods even when you are committed to optimising your health.

If you are interested in improving your health through nutrition contact her at emmawaldernutrition@gmail.com to book a consultation.

Rachel Boon BSc (Hons) ND, Dip Herb - Medical Herbalism & Naturopathy

I have been living and practicing in the Worthing-area for the last 10 years. I most regularly and successfully treat digestive problems (constipation, diarrhoea, IBS, bloating), skin conditions (acne, eczema, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, athletes foot) and all kinds of women's and children's conditions. Being dual-qualified, my patients benefit from a two-pronged approach. The naturopathic element means dietary and lifestyle alterations are made so the body's own healing attempts are not blocked, plus the herbal medicine side of things allows a bespoke herbal treatment plan to be made up to help address any imbalances directly. You may be prescribed tinctures, teas, powders, creams and infused oils, although usually not all at the same time! I aim to treat the underlying cause of any imbalance as well as help manage the symptoms so that your quality of life improves quickly and for the long-term.

Vikki Turney - Psychotherapist

I am a qualified counsellor with experience of working sensitively with many issues that can cause, confusion and despair; such as bereavement and loss, suffering, depression, anxiety, abuse, low self image, anger issues, periods of transition and change, or unhelpful patterns of behaviour. Counselling provides support through complicated and painful periods of life, giving you an opportunity to sort through, and better understand the difficulties you face.

Speaking to a professionally trained listener can help you to make informed changes in your life, and may also help you to come to terms with the things that you cannot change. Counselling is an excellent way of exploring who you are, and your unique way of being. By focussing on your habitual ways of reacting and giving attention to your feeling responses you will grow in self awareness and gain greater control over your choices and behaviours. Together we will look at the patterns of behaviour that may be holding you back in life, and find ways to reach for your higher potential.

Depending on what brings you to counselling at this time, I offer open-ended therapy, or brief, solution-focused counselling. This is guided by your needs and desires, to explore whatever you choose to bring, for help with specific problems, general discontentment, or in times of crisis.

The counselling model I use is "person centred," and I believe that each of us has the ability to find the answers we need to feel fulfilled, and to live our lives in a meaningful way - my work is to help you to hear your own inner voice which will guide you to people and situations that are for your best interest.

I am trained integratively, and I draw upon a range of therapeutic approaches to find a way of working that best suits your needs and personality. I provide an environment that is accepting, empathic, and open; a safe space for you to use as you choose.

It is important that you find a counsellor that you feel comfortable with, and our initial consultation gives us an opportunity to meet in person, and for you to outline what brings you to counselling. After this meeting if we both feel that we are well suited we will agree on our working contract - this will be to meet weekly, at a regular, agreed time. How long we work together will depend on what you want from counselling.

If you would like to talk about how counselling could work for you, please contact me on 07972 153 020.

Helen Cooper-Harding - Pilates

I first discovered pilates over a decade ago and my love of the discipline has refocused my career into teaching it both one-to-one and group classes. The pilates principles of concentration, centring, control, precision, breathing, flow, body awareness and stamina run through the classes and influence the lesson plans, along side of course the clients’ needs.

Pilates can help with general well being and is especially good for postural problems, back care, great core strength and tone. It complements other activities and is a great aid to creating a balanced lifestyle. Due to the progressions, adaptations and modification available within the pilates exercises, it can cater to most abilities, ages, body shapes and types as well as fitting in with our busy lifestyles.

Having overcome some serious health issues in the past, I am well aware of the importance of physical and mental wellbeing and how the mind and body connection and awareness can enhance one's life and experiences. I trained with Future Fit in 2014 and am continuing with additional courses to further enhance my knowledge and understanding of Pilates and the benefits that can be gained from it.

Alongside my Specialist Diploma in Mat-Based Pilates, I have recently completed Pre and Post Natal Pilates & Nutrition, Pilates with Small Equipment, Pilates for Common Orthopaedic Conditions and Vertical Fusion Pilates (ballet/yoga/pilates – flow). I am also REPs (Register of Exercise Professionals) registered.

I work across Worthing and West Sussex in health clubs, gyms, clinics and on retreats with Sally Parkes.

Kerrie Chinn – Pilates

My name is Kerrie and I run Balanced Exercise. I have been teaching Clinical Pilates and Postural Stability in West Sussex for over 10 years and over the last year have been teaching at Worthing Osteopathic & Wellbeing Clinic.

Having witnessed the huge decline in back and postural health in our population over the last 10 years, I chose to specialise in a more rehabilitative approach to pilates and postural stability. I work closely with osteopaths, chiropractors, neuro-physios and GPs. I believe in a supported recovery, working with you and your practitioner to improve the advice and approach to individual problems. No one is exactly the same.

My classes are closely linked with physiotherapy and injury rehabilitation, which make them very safe for people with more complicated postural issues such as disc degeneration or arthritis. They are suitable for all levels of fitness and ability, be it a beginner coming from their osteopath due to back pain, or a runner recovering from a knee injury.

Unlike large gym-based classes, I am able to instruct and correct you throughout the class and you can be confident in my extensive training and experience. I am passionate about my clients understanding their own posture and teaching them how to correctly hold themselves to alleviate and limit pain in daily life. I teach people from ages 18 to 90! It's never too late to improve what you have!
